Chris' Updates

It has really been an excellent week, let me tell you. It started out being very ordinary and plain. Nothing interesting at all. Jeremey's car crapped out, so he's been using mine all week, but other than that very normal. The Wednesday came along, and I got a happy letter. A letter from the CU Financial Aid office, telling me they'd found me some grant money. Quite a bit, actually. In fact, enough money to pay for my tuition and refund me a really good chunk! This was really good news! I decided to run errands Thursday, and I checked with the office to make absolutely sure it was right. It's true! So I decided to use a little of my education money for a new educational toy . Because I'm still catching up in Calculus, and this is going to make a world of difference. Cameron has the old TI-89, and it has helped me so much already. I should also be getting Army bonus money and monthly GI Bill injections soon. I was thinking about looking at a new laptop soon, but then...

Test over, and thank god! I went to drastic measures today and stayed home from school so I could study. (Ironic, huh?) I think I did pretty well, and much better after studying. It feels like a good solid B-, but we'll see. So this midterm season comes to a close. And the roads are horrendous tonight. It looked great when I went in for the test at 7PM, and at 8:30 the roads were slush. Worse actually, it was that powder that refuses to give you traction. But I'm sure it will be better by the weekend. I just hope it gives me an excuse to e-mail my TA for tomorrow's physics recitation and tell him the roads are too bad! Night!

I guess I could add something about my Valentine's Day. I had a test. She worked. Basically, I saw Ashley for about an hour tonight, after the midterm. I forgot to bring her her gift, a nice new food chopper, so we didn't exchange gifts. But I did get to find out what she's getting me, a new fleece pullover. She had me try it on, but the one she got was too big, so she'll exchange it. We'll get a little more romantic, probably Friday night. I'm taking her to see Moulin Rouge as put on by Ballet Noveau Colorado. Should be fun!

The physics midterm is over tonight, and so far so good! I'm expecting about a B on it, which is reasonable. Now for that Calc 2 midterm tomorrow night...

Good week and weekend. The photo mosaic program is coming right along - it does pretty nice work. I'd show you if I had storage space. Saturday I took the liberty of wiring the house with Ethernet jacks; it wasn't expensive, and now our Counter-Strike Source games will be much more fun. That night, Ashley, Jackie, Jeremey and I took a bit of a double date to Fascinations in Boulder, just for fun. Jeremey was the only one who bought anything, but it was fun looking around for a bit. Jackie had a very good night, I'll just put it that way. Sunday, Ashley's family had a get-together and I got to tell my war stories from training. Other than that it was pretty quiet. This next week is going to be hectic as all get out. I've got my usual homework load, plus Physics and Calc 2 midterms! Be afraid! Actually, Physics should be alright, I feel pretty comfortable there. Calc on the other hand, I'm gonna be spending lots of time studying for Wednesday night. Then next week...

This weekend and today have been exceedingly much fun! Saturday we held my birthday party, and we had quite a turnout. We of course had Ashley, Cameron, Jeremey and Jackie, along with Kelly, Will, and Holly. Jackie provided the "keg" as promised... an enormous 5L keg of root beer. Excellent root beer, might I add. Ashley made a huge feast for us, and we could only scratch the surface. We mostly hung around, getting blasted out by Dream Theater, until Jeremey and Jackie left for their first date together. (Cue the audience, "Awww".) The rest of us watched movies and talked high school and gossip. Sunday was of course the Commercial Bowl. In addition to Ashley, Jackie, Cameron and Jeremey, we also had Cameron's brother Kyle. We watched, laughed at the good commercials, got bored to death by the game. I worked on my CompSci project a bit; a photomosaic program. Jackie stayed a bit too late, and decided it would be best to drive up Monday morning instead of risking ...

So yeah, last night was Bush's big State of the Union address for the year. I'm usually not all that interested, but I figured his decisions might have a direct influence on my daily life for a few more years. I'm glad to hear that Iraq is going well. As much as I'd like to just have us pull out, I know we have to stay. The fact that he talked about Iran really sort of frightens me; I don't think we should be picking new fights. I have this sinking feeling that Bush is planning on expanding the War on Terrorism before the end of his 3 last years, and I'm still in service for another 5 years. Bad mojo. And it may be Bush's usual hot air, but it was really nice to hear him saying we have an "addiction to oil" that has to be broken. It makes me think that this whole thing in the Middle East is fought with the welfare of people in mind. And a gasoline alternative competitive in 6 years? That's incredible news, if you ask me.
